Are You Treating Symptoms or Establishing Health?
The "Mechanical Model" of medicine says you're a machine! With this type of outlook, no wonder no one's well. This mechanistic type of health care focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disease and the symptoms of disease. This ideology concerns the belief that the body has a tendency to break down like a machine, and when it does, we tinker with the mechanisms or remove or replace the parts altogether.
Mechanical Outside-In Disease Model
1. The cause of health issues. Current medical thinking looks at the cause of disease as something that is stuck, something that is "sudden," or something that jumps out (or in) and attacks us from the outside. Heart problems are examples of something we're told are in our family, cancer is believed to "suddenly" strike, and a cold and flu bug somehow bores its way from the outside -- in and gets us.
2. The cure for health issues. The responsibility for healing is placed upon something outside of the body. Diseases are treated or symptoms are masked from the outside - in, using either medication (such as antibiotics, muscle relaxants, and anti-inflammatory drugs) or an outside-in resource such as surgery (repair, replacement, or removal of the organ, muscle, or tissue).
If this has been your understanding of the treatment of disease, it's time you learn about new research and tens of thousands of clinical reports that are proving this concept to be limited, potentially dangerous, and frequently far less necessary than doctors prescribe it. It's not that this approach never has any warrant, but on the whole it makes no sense and has failed to keep us well.
Doctors learn this model, which does not train nor prepare them to create health but only to treat disease, and medical science continues to support the model despite its failure to create a more healthy and happy world. A traditional doctor looks at disease as a single entity or event and at the human body as a sum of its parts. This type of doctor may "specialize" in a part or system, yet he or she doesn't see the body as a powerful, vital, complex, healing, living, breathing organism.
Vital Inside-Out Dis-ease Model:
The truth is that the body is not a bunch of parts; instead it's a symphony of parts working together in harmony. After all, what's an eye or an intestine without the rest of the body? The whole is greater than the sum.
1. The cause of health issues. The cause of health problems comes from the inside due to the existence of "dis-ease." This is a lack of normal function, balance, harmony, or "ease" in the body. It's the presence of dis-ease on the inside that creates an unhealthy environment for your cells to thrive and causes a disruption in vital health. This allows bugs, such as different forms of cancer, heart disease, and other illness to overcome you, on the inside. Dis-ease can be best described as a lack of cooperation amongst cells, and may result in the breakdown, disrepair, imbalance, or lowered resistance of your body. Effectively, over time, symptoms of illness can arise along with a full-blown, diagnosed disease.
2. The cure for health issues. Don't treat the symptom or disease; treat the cause. By following this new way of thinking about disease, you don't look at sickness and disease as something you're stuck with - essentially that attacks you, or that's getting you from the outside in - but instead resulting from dis-ease, or a lack of proper function and balance inside the body. You do what you can to restore normal function and "ease" so that you may build resistance to germs and prevent illness. In this way, the responsibility for healing does not lie on something outside of you, but inside of you.
The body is a self-healing, self-regulating, self-perpetuating organism. There is no disease the body cannot heal. The key to health is to treat the cause, not the affect; essentially to detect, identify, correct, and remove that which interferes with proper function and balance. Only when you eliminate the interference can you establish "ease" in the body. With balance restored and "dis-ease" eliminated, then and only then can you create an internal environment that supports not only getting rid of your symptoms and disease, but also actually restoring health…from the inside-out!
